Obsessions History

Obsessions started as the idea of a retired businessman from Florida. Sitting around a cabin in North Carolina just wasn’t challenging enough for Joe Jones. He looked to his wife’s and daughter’s long time hobby of jewelry making and decided a bead store might be a lot of fun. Once he purchased the little metal building, it was time to set up shop. Joe and his wife, Barb, called on their daughter from Florida and daughter-in-law from new York to help with the decorating and stocking of the store. That’s when the fun really began.

Barb and her daughter have an ongoing love of mermaids so the women used that as their logo and set up the shop with a beach theme. When the time approached to stock the store they jumped in with all six feet and had a ball. they spent many a night tagging inventory and started the upward motion of a giant learning curve. Having always been on the buying end of retail, it was an adventure to think about being on the selling end.

When the shop was stocked it was time to look for someone who could manage the place. After many long hours in the shop, Tammy decided this is where she belonged. A dream of hers to one day own her own shop came true. She relocated from Florida and became a businesswoman. The rest is history. The little store has become a favorite spot for local beaders, offering classes and a wide selection of beads and findings.
